VTEP BYLAWS
PURPOSES
To bring together business owners and professionals residing in Canada and foster unity, collaboration, and cooperation among members.
To collaborate with other organizations and institutions in accordance with our mission and undertake activities that strengthen such partnerships.
To encourage members to continuously develop themselves based on the principles of social responsibility, solidarity, and leadership.
To contribute to the economic and social development of British Columbia and Canada, and to support efforts to address social and economic challenges, in cooperation with other non-governmental organizations, elected officials, and public and private institutions.
To facilitate the exchange of information and establish the necessary conditions for members to pursue investment opportunities in Canada and abroad and to establish business connections, thereby contributing to the development of bilateral trade relations.
To establish clear, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time- and financially sustainable objectives for the medium and long term, and to undertake projects aligned with these objectives or collaborate with relevant authorities and organizations capable of supporting their implementation.
To provide members with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to act with confidence in the business world, establish a recognized and sustainable position in the international business environment, and prepare for national and international competition.
To facilitate, encourage, and support commercial cooperation among VTEP members and establish the necessary environment for such cooperation.
To enhance the brand value and professional standing of members at the local, national, and international levels.
To raise awareness of and provide support for business, social, and cultural issues affecting our community.
AREAS OF ACTIVITY
To establish and maintain professional and social relations between VTEP and industrialists, businesspeople, service-sector organizations, banks, financial institutions, auxiliary service providers, educational institutions, labour unions, local governments and municipalities, foundations, universities, other non-governmental organizations, and government institutions, with the aim of ensuring the informed, structured, and rational development of VTEP.
To cooperate with other associations across Canada to support the sectoral organization of industrialists and businesspeople; provide information and market support; develop projects to facilitate access to financing at national and international levels; and provide references and related support.
To organize seminars, conferences, panels, meetings, and other educational activities for the purpose of increasing the knowledge and education levels of both members and the broader community.
To facilitate professional knowledge sharing and communication among members through newsletters, magazines, newspapers, radio and television programs, and social media platforms.
To inform members about and participate in fairs, exhibitions, fundraising events, and similar activities organized in accordance with the purposes of VTEP, and to undertake activities related to such events.
MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
Individuals must be at least 19 years of age and possess full legal capacity and civil rights.
Individuals must reside in British Columbia, Canada, and either work for an organization or business located in British Columbia or own and operate a business based in British Columbia.
Prospective members must be referred by at least two existing VTEP members.
Members are responsible for protecting the interests and reputation of VTEP.
Business members must provide valid business registration certificates.
Members must provide official documentation authorizing them to practice professionally in their respective field, or an employer letter confirming their professional status.
Membership dues and any applicable initiation fee must be paid within ten (10) business days of the date membership is approved. For new members, membership dues will be calculated on a monthly basis based on the date of application. For existing members, annual membership dues shall be payable each September.
A member must not have been convicted of any criminal offence at the national or international level and must not be subject to any ongoing criminal investigation or criminal proceedings during their membership. If a criminal investigation is initiated or criminal charges are brought against a member during their membership, the member must immediately notify the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors may review the circumstances and determine whether the member's membership should be suspended or terminated.
Members consent to being photographed and/or recorded during events organized by VTEP and to the use and publication of such photographs and video content on social media platforms and other communication channels.
Members are required to notify VTEP of any changes to their personal or professional information relevant to their membership.
Membership is non-transferable and may not be assigned or transferred to another individual or organization. Upon resignation, termination, or removal from VTEP, all membership rights shall cease.
Any disputes arising among VTEP members should first be brought to the attention of the Board of Directors.
Members must comply with the ethical standards and codes of conduct established by VTEP and act in accordance with the purposes and principles of VTEP.
GROUNDS FOR TERMINATION OF MEMBERSHIP
Membership may be terminated for any of the following reasons:
Engaging in conduct that violates the VTEP Bylaws, principles, or policies;
Failing to perform assigned duties or deliberately avoiding responsibilities assigned by VTEP;
Failing to pay membership dues within ninety (90) days despite written notice or reminder;
Failing to comply with decisions made by the VTEP Board of Directors;
No longer meeting the eligibility requirements for membership;
Prioritizing personal interests over the interests of VTEP in connection with VTEP activities, or engaging in activities that may damage the reputation of VTEP;
Engaging in conduct toward other members that violates accepted business practices, professional standards, or generally recognized ethical principles;
Without the prior written authorization of the Board of Directors, using email, newsletters, social media, or similar communication channels to distribute bulk promotional or advertising content to other members for the purpose of promoting the member's own business;
Sharing members' contact information with third parties or organizations without the consent of the relevant member(s);
Sharing VTEP announcements, training materials, meeting materials, or decisions made during VTEP meetings, whether in written or visual form, with individuals or organizations that are not VTEP members;
Engaging in political or religious propaganda within VTEP;
Being convicted of a criminal offence at the national or international level, or becoming subject to a criminal investigation or criminal proceedings during the member's period of membership;
Acting on behalf of VTEP without authorization or entering into actions, commitments, or agreements that purport to bind VTEP without proper authority;
Discriminating against other members on the basis of race, gender, religion, language, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or any other personal characteristic;
Using the VTEP name or logo for purposes unrelated to VTEP or in a manner that may harm the interests or reputation of VTEP;
Obtaining membership by knowingly providing false, misleading, or fraudulent information or documentation during the membership application process;
Intentionally obstructing, sabotaging, or otherwise undermining VTEP activities or operational effectiveness;
Misusing VTEP resources, reputation, relationships, or connections for personal or commercial gain;
Engaging in mistreatment, harassment, bullying, or workplace-style intimidation toward other VTEP members;
Requesting or attempting to improperly obtain preferential treatment, privileges, or benefits from VTEP for oneself or others.
RESIGNATION AND TERMINATION OF MEMBERSHIP
Requests to resign from VTEP membership must be submitted to VTEP management either verbally or in writing.
A member who resigns or is removed from membership remains responsible for payment of all membership dues accrued up to the effective date of resignation or termination.
In cases where membership is terminated, the Board of Directors may, at its discretion, waive some or all outstanding membership dues owed by the member.
Membership dues paid in advance shall not be refunded for the period remaining after the effective date of resignation or termination.
In exceptional circumstances, including illness, significant financial hardship, or other compelling circumstances, the Board of Directors may, at its discretion, approve a partial refund of membership dues paid in advance.
A person who has resigned from or been removed from VTEP membership may, subject to the approval of the Board of Directors, apply for membership again. Applications for re-admission shall be reviewed by the Board of Directors in detail, taking into consideration the applicant's previous conduct and circumstances.
